The darknet, also known as the dark web, is a concealed section of the internet that's inaccessible via standard search engines. You can only access it using special software, settings, or authorization. This area comprises websites and content that are purposely kept hidden from public view.

Accessing darknet requires using Tor Browser, a special web browser that routes your internet traffic through a global network of relays managed by volunteers. This way, it becomes very difficult to trace which websites you're visiting, and these sites won't know where you are located.

When visiting the dark web, use a secure browser like Tor, do not reveal any of your personal information, and don't open suspicious files or links to stay safe.

The Darknet is often utilized for secure communication, discreet information or file sharing, anonymous research without identity exposure, and occasionally for engaging in illicit activities. It is also recognized for hosting underground black markets(darknet markets), whistleblowing platforms, and discussion boards that champion freedom of speech.

While accessing Darknet Markets themselves is typically not against the law in most places, engaging with illicit goods within them is generally considered a crime. On the other hand, some people might visit Darknet Markets for lawful purposes such as research, journalistic work, or simply to explore online communities. It's essential to know the local laws regarding online activities, and be cautious when using these platforms to avoid any potential issues.

MGM Grand Darknet Market Retiring

MGM Grand Darknet Market will be retiring and shutting their services on the 30th of June 2025, this came with no notice no post or any kind of heads up, only indication was the deletion of their SubDread and any accounts associated with it. Although MGM Grand's choice to peacefully retire is noble and the "best" way to shut down it's services. It is not unexpected, with recent events mainly Archetyp darknet market getting shut down by law enforcement and law enforcement being more active in recent years, Darknet Market admins and moderators have to make a tough choice: Stay, Exit Scam or Retire. Understandably some of them have been spooked by Archetyp's shutdown and takeover the dread account of the main Admin, although being a very poor attempt to communicate and spook the community, some Darknet Market admins have decided that the best way to move forward is to shut down operations.

Although MGM Grand is not the largest market it has built it's name and place on the darknet market scene, so it's sudden shutdown and retirement both brings farewell wishes and an unpleasant realization that we might see more darknet markets retire or exit scam in the future. Which will bring even more eyes on the existing markets that decide to stay, this will be a double edged knife. While Archetyp's customers will be now moving onto different markets and with smaller markets like MGM Grand retiring will be more financially benefitial to the markets that do decide to stay it will also bring the unwanted attention that brought down Archetyp, will their OpSec be able to endure and adapt to modern law enforcement tactics?
